Ownership & Funding
Who owns The Global Mail, how the paper is funded, and the structure that protects its independence.
Who owns The Global Mail?
The Global Mail is owned by The Global Mail Company, a private company whose share capital is held by the Wycombe Editorial Trust, a charitable trust founded in 1962 for the express purpose of safeguarding the editorial independence of the paper.
How is the editorial trust structured?
The Trust is governed by an independent board of nine members, drawn from the worlds of journalism, the law, academia, and civil society. The board has no commercial interest in the paper and is constitutionally barred from instructing the Editor in Chief on editorial matters.
How is the paper funded?
We are predominantly reader-supported. Approximately three-quarters of revenue comes from individual subscriptions; the balance comes from display advertising, institutional licensing, and a small endowment maintained by the Trust.
What financial disclosures do you make?
The Trust publishes annual financial statements, available in the Investors section of this site. We do not accept funding from political parties, governments, or beneficial-ownership-opaque entities.
