Corrections Policy
How The Global Mail handles errors, complaints, and corrections to the published record.
We aim to be accurate. When we are not, we correct the record promptly, transparently, and in a form that is visible to readers of both the original article and the day’s corrections digest.
How do I request a correction?
Readers may request a correction by writing to corrections@theglobalmail.org or by post to the Standards desk at the address on the Contact page. Please include the article URL or print date, the disputed passage, and the basis for the correction.
How do corrections appear on the page?
A correction is appended to the bottom of the affected article and noted in a clearly labelled “Corrections” line where applicable. The original text is not silently altered: the substantive change is described.
What happens for significant errors?
Where an error is significant, the article’s “last updated” timestamp is changed and the corrections note is summarised in the daily Corrections column.
What if a complaint cannot be resolved by the Standards desk?
Readers who believe a complaint has not been handled satisfactorily by the Standards desk may escalate it to the Editor in Chief at editor@theglobalmail.org.
The corrections process is one of three documents that govern how the newsroom holds itself to account. See also our Ethics Policy for the principles that govern conflicts of interest and sourcing, and our Editorial Standards for our rules on sourcing, verification, and use of unnamed sources.
